TLoS: World at War Ch. 43

"Vell, zis is not vhat I expected." said Richtofen.  Ever since arriving, he was getting increasingly disatisfied with the island.  "I zought zis was known as the Vhite Isles.  Instead, ve get dark gray in a sea of blue..."

"We're not here to sightsee Richtofen," said Spyro, walking ahead,  "We're here to meet a very important person.  Hopefully, he can help us."

"Speaking of vhich, who is zis someone?"  Richtofen and Takeo followed.  "You have to failed to mention ze name."  

"His name is the Chronicler.  He is known as the wisest dragon out here, and he spoke to me several times in my dreams.  I only hope that I'm not going insane and hope to find something useful out here."  answered Spyro.

"I trust in you, Spyro." said Takeo, Arisaka out and aimed at all sides.  "So does the doctor.  Right?"

"Ja Herr Spyro..." assured Richtofen.  After sometime of simply walking through the barren Island, they had come across warrior stautes standing in an imposing stance.  Shields were out front and swords hung in their other hands.  

"Fascinating..." said Richtofen.  He came closer and admired the stone work.  He peered into the face of the statue.  

Spyro instantly recognized the statues as the same ones he encountered when he relearned his elements and shouted, "Richtofen! Get back!"


"Huh?"  Richtofen turned around and the statue moved.  It lifted its shield and knocked Richtofen down to the ground.  Richtofen yelped in pain, dropped his MP-40, and looked up to see the statue raise its sword over its head and swing it down.  Richtofen held his arm up in a desperate attempt to protect himself.  Spyro had formed an Earth Flail and caused it smack right into the statue, shattering it, before it could kill the German.  Richtofen, with the assistance of Takeo, quickly got back up and recovered his gun.  The other statue began to move and approached the group.  Behind it, Spyro saw that there was a line of seven statues and they had also come to life.

"Great..." he growled and they watched the statues circle around them and hold their shields up, forming a wall.  The wall slowly began to close and the statues held their swords pointed at them.  Spyro then began to think quickly of a solution.  His thoughts were interrupted when he heard Takeo shout, "Get down!"  Richtofen dived and covered his head.  Spyro was confused but did so and he saw Takeo pull the pin on a grenade and throw it at the statues infront of him.  Takeo went prone and covered his head just in time as the grenade exploded.  The concussive force and the shrapnel had blown four of the statue apart.  

The remaining three then charged at the group.  Spyro responded by lowering his horns and charging back. He had overpowered the statue in the middle and knocked it to the ground.  It quickly got up and raised its sword.  Spyro shot a bolt of electricity, causing the statue to tremble with electricity bolts appearing around it.  While the statue was being shocked, Spyro shot a fireball at it, blowing it apart.  He panted with exhaustion and turned to see the humans fighting each of the statues.

Richtofen had quickly gotten up and turn to face his adversary.  The statue he was fighting had its shield raised and Richtofen aimed his MP-40 at it.  

"Stay down schwein!" he shouted as he opened fire.  To his dismay, the bullets shattered on the shield with no effect.  The statue charged straight at him and bashed him with its shield.  Richtofen groaned in pain as he took the impact in the chest, but stumbled back instead of getting knocked down.  The statue then slashed its sword at Richtofen's stomach.  Richtofen had jumped back to avoid the deadly blade and purposely dropped his MP-40.  He reached for the Wunderwaffe on his back and charged it.  The statue was slowly advancing on him and Richtofen released a bolt of electricity at it.  The statue trembled with blue electricty, but it did not kill it, as Richtofen had expected.  He took this oppotunity to grab his MP-40 and unleash a volley.  The Wunderwaffe weakened the statue's resistance as the bullets easily tore the statue apart, with the head rolling infront of Richtofen.

"Ich bin unaufhaltbar! (I am unstoppable!)" Richtofen cried victoriously as he put his boot ontop of the head.  He then crushed it with a stomp.

Takeo had been in a melee with the statue that attacked him.  Takeo had always perferred close combat, even with the Zombies, and had literally dodged every swing and attemped bash the statue tried to inflict.  Likewise though, every stab from his bayonet or rifle-butt he tried to make against the statue met with resistance against the shield.  The exchanging of blows continued until the statue finally kicked Takeo in the stomach.  The Japanese reeled back as the air was knocked out of him, with his eyes going wide in pain.  The statue then pointed its sword at Takeo and charged.  Takeo side stepped and landed a rifle-butt to the statue's head.  The statue stepped back and Takeo quickly aimed his gun at its head.  He pulled the trigger and the high-powered rifle bullet shattered its head.  Its headless body fell to the ground limply.  

Richtofen helped Takeo over to Spyro, who was sitting on the ground panting.  

"Are you alright?" Spyro asked Takeo.  Takeo merely nodded and grasped his stomach.  He cringed as he tenderly felt the spot where he was kicked.  

"How about you? Are you alright?" Takeo asked back.  Spyro nodded and panted.

"Just a tired," he explained.  "It's hard work using these elements."  

"Hold on Herr Spyro.  I have some of those green crystals you are so fond of."  Richtofen put his bag down and opened it.  Spyro watched Richtofen rummage through his bag and pull out a hand full of shards of green crystals.

"Where did you get those?" Spyro asked, suprised.  The crystal shards disappeared into energy and merged with Spyro, rejuvenating him.  

"There vas a stock of ze crystals on ze pirate ship.  I took some, because I believe I can use them." answered Richtofen, putting his backpack on.

"Whatever for Doctor?" asked Takeo.

"I believe, I can upgrade our bullets vith these.  With ze amount energy they produce, I believe I can fashion bullets from these.  However, I expect that vould take a long time to complete.  I'll think about though..."  Richtofen trailed off in his thoughts.

Spyro stood back up, "Well, whatever you plan to do, we should keep moving." He turned and walked down the path with Sparx right behind him.  Richtofen and Takeo then followed, each staying at Spyro's flanks.
